Compact Florescent Lamps (CFL)
Lumbee River EMC sells CFLs at all of its office locations for a very reasonable price. The 13 watt bulbs (60 watt equivalents) cost $1.25* each. The 26 watt bulbs (100 watt equivalents) cost $1.85* each. *Prices exclude sales tax.
Using compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) instead of standard incandescent bulb can result in significant savings - CFLs use a third of the energy used by incandescent bulbs, and produce 90 percent less heat.
- CFLs last up to 10 times longer than standard bulbs. They'll need to be changes far less often, making them extra convenient in hard-to-reach and high-use fixtures.
- CFLs save an average of $30 each in energy cost over their lifetime.
- Although CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, they actually have less of an environmental impact than incandescent bulbs. The greatest source of airborne mercury is coal-burning power plants, and replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs will help lower the amount of mercury in the atmosphere.
Lumbee River believes that a responsible part of any CFL promotion should be to offer disposal solutions to our membership. Each Lumbee River office location has a collection bucket that is specifically designed for recycling CFLs. Lumbee River EMC accepts spent/burned out CFLs. We will not accept broken CFLs.
